PSL 2026 Eliminator 2 Preview: Hyderabad vs Islamabad - Head-to-Head, Pitch Report, & Where to Watch
Since they ditched their losing habits, Hyderabad Kingsmen have only once looked like their past version: clueless and confused. That was against Islamabad United, which was a pretty high-stakes game. Hyderabad had to defeat them to keep their fate in their own hands, but that was not to be since Kingsmen not only lost the game, they did so with a dismantling effect on their Net Run Rate (NRR).
In hindsight, it wasn’t too bad as it all worked out in the end for them. Hyderabad Kingsmen made it to the playoffs and smashed their first hurdle Multan Sultans, quite convincingly. They now have to beat Islamabad to book a spot in the final with Peshawar Zalmi.
Islamabad have been a little iffy this season. And yes, this is not the word to use for a team that ended group stages in the second spot. But provided United lost, and quite heavily at that, against teams that had no chance against them, using that word isn’t as sacrilegious. For instance, Rawalpindiz defeated only one team this season: Islamabad United.
Barring their top three, who at times did the bulk of scoring, the other batters haven’t stepped up as consistently. Among the teams in the playoffs, Islamabad’s Nos. 4 to 7 have the worst average this year. Islamabad are also the only team besides Quetta Gladiators to not cross the 200-run mark in the PSL 11.
There is also a notable imbalance between Islamabad’s bowling and batting. They have fared fairly well with the ball but not as much with the bat. That has to do with the fact that, barring their top three, Islamabad have largely fielded all-rounders.
Hyderabad also have another advantage over Islamabad: familiarity with the venue. The last time United played at Gaddafi Stadium was on April 4, and they have only featured three times in Lahore this season.
Head-to-Head Matches:
Islamabad and Hyderabad have won one game each in the two games they have played against each other in the group stages this season.
Pitch Report:
Multan Sultans were only able to amass a 160-run target in Eliminator 1 at Gaddafi Stadium, but that hardly defined how the pitch behaved. The surface was as flat as they come, as Multan were unable to reap the rewards of it. Hyderabad gunned down the total with 28 balls to spare, and that says plenty about the turf. Batting second also favoured Hyderabad immensely as the dew in the second innings made the job easier. Across both innings, pacers accounted for seven of the eleven wickets, and a similar pattern can be expected in this game.
