Najmul Hossain Shanto Steps Down as T20I Captain of Bangladesh
Najmul Hossain Shanto doesn't want to be the skipper for Bangladesh's T20I team anymore, but it seems he'll still be captain for ODI and Test matches. Earlier, Shanto expressed that he no longer wanted to be the team captain of Bangladesh. However, Faruque Ahmed who was the President of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), convinced him to reconsider his decision.
Shanto informed the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) about his decision to step down as T20I captain, the Bangladesh Cricket Board accepted his decision, according to a Cricbuzz report. Since Bangladesh doesn't have any T20I matches scheduled soon, the BCB is in no rush to appoint a new captain.
A BCB official shared with Cricbuzz, "Shanto informed us that he no longer wants to lead in T20Is, and we accepted his decision. As there are no T20Is coming up, we have time and are not naming a new captain yet. If no injury occurs, Najmul will continue as captain for Tests and ODIs, which we've already discussed."
While Shanto stepped down as a T20I captain Bangladesh Cricket Board(BCB) seems Litton Das is up next to be the T20I captain instead of Shanto. Das just led Bangladesh to beat the West Indies in all three games of their series there, so he's expected to take charge.
Litton was the captain for Bangladesh in just four games, but he did a great job by winning three wins and only one loss. In contrast, Shanto was in charge of significantly more games, a total of 24 T20Is. Out of these, he managed to win 10 games and lost 13 games with one no-result. That means Shanto's win rate is 41.66%, and his times losing are a bit higher at 54.16%.
Bangladesh is going to compete head-to-head with India to begin their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 on February 20 in Dubai. Shanto is the man everyone thinks will captain Bangladesh. They're in Group A, which also has India, Pakistan, and New Zealand competing.
