India's Asia Cup 2025 Squad: Official Announcement Date Revealed

India's Asia Cup 2025 Squad: Official Announcement Date Revealed

The 17th edition of the Asia Cup is scheduled to be held from September 9 to 26, kicking off one of Asia’s biggest cricket tournaments this year

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to announce India's squad for the 2025 Asia Cup on Tuesday, August 19. A meeting in Mumbai will finalize the team. According to a TOI report, Captain Suryakumar Yadav will attend the meeting, flying in from Bengaluru.

After the selection, chief selector Ajit Agarkar will hold a press conference. This squad is particularly important because it will offer a glimpse into the selectors' and captain's strategy for the 2026 T20 World Cup, which will also be held in the subcontinent.

“Yes, the team for the Asia Cup will be picked on Aug 19 in Mumbai. The selection committee meeting will be followed by a press conference by chief selector, former India pacer Ajit Agarkar," a BCCI source stated.

India is in Group A, and India’s campaign will begin with a match against the UAE on September 10 at the Dubai International Cricket Ground.

Key Questions for India's Asia Cup Squad

  • Who will make the team? The selectors will consider players who have been performing well in other formats, such as Test skipper Shubman Gill, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, and ODI star Shreyas Iyer.

  • Who will be the vice-captain? Reports suggest Gill might be a new vice-captain. If so, it would replace Axar Patel, who was Suryakumar's deputy in the last series against England. Sticking with Patel would signal that the team sees him as a potential future captain. Other options, like Hardik Pandya, could also be considered.

  • Is Jasprit Bumrah fit? There are concerns about Bumrah's fitness after he left the Test squad early in England. Agarkar is expected to provide an update on his status and availability.
