PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi Likely to Skip ICC Meeting Amid Asia Cup Trophy Dispute with BCCI
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman and ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi may not attend the ICC Executive Board meeting in Dubai. As per reports, he plans to skip it to avoid any clash with the Indian cricket board over the Asia Cup trophy issue. Earlier, after winning the final, the Indian team did not take the trophy from Naqvi during the presentation ceremony.
PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi did not ask anyone else to hand over the Asia Cup trophy and reportedly left the venue with it. The trophy has remained locked at the ACC office in Dubai ever since. Naqvi is said to have turned down several BCCI requests to officially hand it over insisting that India should collect it from him in person. He even suggested holding a small ceremony in Dubai, but the BCCI refused and warned that the matter would be raised at the ICC meeting.
The four-day ICC meeting, which started on Tuesday, was expected to see a heated exchange between the two boards. However, Naqvi is now likely to skip it, citing political duties at home. PCB insiders haven’t shared details about his absence. In his place, PCB COO Sumair Syed will attend the ICC meeting on November 7, while Naqvi may join online if needed. This would mark another ICC meeting Naqvi has missed since Jay Shah took over as chairman last year.
Tilak Varma and Kuldeep Yadav Shine in India’s Five-Wicket Victory
India won the Asia Cup 2025, beating Pakistan by five wickets in the final at Dubai on September 28. Chasing 147, Tilak Varma scored 68* and Shivam Dube made 33. Kuldeep Yadav took 4 wickets as Pakistan were bowled out cheaply. India got USD 150,000 prize money, while Pakistan received USD 75,000. The BCCI also gave the Indian team a ₹21 crore bonus.
On Monday, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia warned Mohsin Naqvi, saying the board had written to the ACC about ten days ago asking for the Asia Cup trophy but got no reply. He said he was confident that the ICC would step in and make sure India gets the trophy soon.
"Ten days ago, we wrote to the ACC Chairperson, requesting that he hand over the trophy to the BCCI at the earliest. However, to this day, we have not received the trophy. We are waiting for another day. If we do not get the trophy by 3 November, a meeting will be held at the ICC headquarters in Dubai. We will raise our grievance before the apex body of international cricket. I am sure ICC will do justice and help India get the trophy at the earliest." BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said.
