Mohsin Naqvi to Skip ICC Meeting as BCCI Prepares Charge Sheet: Asia Cup Dispute Explained

Mohsin Naqvi will not attend Friday’s ICC Board meeting in Dubai. The PCB chairman, who is also Pakistan’s Interior Minister, has to stay in Islamabad for a Senate session where the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment is expected to be presented and approved.
His absence comes at a time when the BCCI is set to raise strong objections against him after the incident where he walked away with the Asia Cup trophy. With Naqvi staying in Pakistan, PCB Chief Operating Officer Sameer Ahmed Syed will attend the ICC meeting on Pakistan’s behalf. According to Telecom Asia Sport, it is very unlikely that Naqvi will join the meeting online.
Naqvi to Miss ICC Meeting as India–Pakistan Tensions Continue
Since he won’t be there, a direct confrontation with the Indian board won’t happen, but the issues between the two sides are still not settled. The BCCI is set to submit a formal charge sheet against Naqvi, citing a conflict of interest. The board argues that holding simultaneous positions as PCB chairman and Interior Minister violates ICC governance rules, which prohibit government interference in the functioning of national cricket boards.
The issue began during the Asia Cup 2025 in the UAE. After India defeated Pakistan in the final on September 28, the Indian players refused to take the trophy from Naqvi because they were upset with his behaviour. Throughout the tournament, no Indian player shook hands with any Pakistani player, and they didn’t want Naqvi to give them the trophy.
Naqvi, who is the ACC president, said that only he had the right to hand over the trophy. He later suggested holding a separate ceremony in Dubai, but India said no. After that, Naqvi moved the trophy to another place, and the PCB chairman insisted that an active Indian player must meet him personally to take the trophy.
