Indian Men's Cricket Team 2024 Report Card: How Many Matches Did The Team Win?

India seal T20 World Cup glory after epic duel against South Africa

For the Indian Mens Cricket Team, 2024 was full of joys and disappointments. On the one hand, India won the ICC Trophy after 11 years, while on the other hand, they also lost the home test series after 12 yearsppppl.

The Indian men's team played 15 test matches, three ODI matches, and 27 T20 matches this calendar year.

Test Matches

India played 15 matches in 2024, winning seven and losing seven. They also played one match draw against Australia in the Border Gavaskar Trophy.

India started with the third and last remaining test match against South Africa in Johannesburg and won it. After that, the next test series was against England, which spanned over 2 months, and India won it by 4-1. Next, India played the ICC T20 World Cup and then played a test series with Bangladesh in September, winning it by 2-0.

The Indian cricket team's last seven test matches were disappointing, as they lost five of them. Against New Zealand, India lost the series for the first time in 12 years at home. What hurt more to the Indian Cricket fans was, after decades, India lost by a clean sweep at home.

India’s last test assignment was the Border Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. India only won the first test match of the series and lost the second and fourth match, while the third match was a draw.

ODIs

This year, India played only three one-day internationals. In a three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, India was defeated 2-0 and lost the ODI to Sri Lanka for the first time since 1998.

ICC T20 WORLD CUP: A Moment to Cherish.

The best moment of this year for Indian cricket was on June 29 when India lifted the T20 World Cup after 17 years, defeating South Africa in the final.

Overall, this was a great year for India in the T20 format, but the team's continuous defeats in the test format are a concern. While for the 50-over format, India should play more ODI games, as the team played only three matches this year.

All format winning rate: 71%
