
Jasprit Bumrah Becomes First Indian Pacer to Win ICC Test Cricketer of the Year Award
The Indian star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has created history by becoming the first Indian pacer to win the prestigious ICC Men's Test Cricketer of the Year award for 2024. Bumrah edged out tough competitors like Kamindu Mendis, Harry Brook, and Joe Root to become the sixth Indian to win this title in Test Cricket.
Bumrah had an excellent year in 2024 by taking 71 Test wickets in just 13 matches with an amazing average of 14.92. Bumrah stole the show with his incredible bowling skills in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Australia, Bumrah was the highest wicket-taker by an Indian in a single series by taking 32 wickets.
The star bowler Bumrah was the leading wicket-taker in Test in 2024 by taking 71 wickets this makes Bumrah to become the fourth Indian bowler to take 70 or more wickets in a single calendar year in Test cricket. The second-best wicket-taker in the Test is England's bowler Gus Atkinson with 52 wickets from 11 matches.

By winning this ICC Men's Test Cricketer of the Year award Bumrah joined an elite group of Indian players who won this award before. Rahul Dravid was the first Indian cricketer to win this award in 2004.

Bumrah made a strong comeback to Test cricket in late 2023 after recovering from his back injury he took eight wickets in the match-winning Test against South Africa in Cape Town. He continued his amazing form for the five-match Test series against England by taking 19 wickets. He also performed well against Bangladesh. In the series against Australia Bumrah took 32 wickets which included two four-wickets and three five-wicket hauls by maintaining an amazing average of 13.06.
During the fifth Test in Sydney Bumrah was injured which forced him to stop bowling and he went for the scans in the middle of the match with support staff. Recently, according to the reports from the CriccBlogger mentioned that the BCCI source has given an update on Bumrah. He was advised to take five weeks' rest before he would start training in the nets and bowling again.
Bumrah was also selected for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He will be crucial for the Indian team's bowling unit. Hopefully, he will recover fast to play cricket for India.
