
Shubman Gill admits challenges in red-ball cricket: "I sometimes struggle with focus"
Shubman Gill is an Indian cricketer who serves as an opening batsman for the national team. he struggled with batting in red-ball games. BCCI leaders were saying he wasn't batting well. But then in an important game for Punjab, the Ranji Trophy, he proved himself by delivering an outstanding performance against Karnataka. Gill scored 102 runs with 14 fours and three sixes, Shubman showed everyone he's still really good and can play for a long time without getting out.
Shubman Gill said that he overthinks when he is batting in cricket games and it's making it hard to play well. This made him get out too early sometimes. Punjab's team didn't do good in their important game. They only scored 213 runs in the second innings and so they lost the game by innings and 207 runs.
Shubman Gill said, "Red ball form is a concern. After a good start, I tend to put too much pressure on myself to be able to convert those. That's not the way I've grown up playing. I've lost my focus and concentration in crucial moments".
When I’m batting, it feels like I’m in my unique zone, fully aware of what I want to achieve. But if I want to try too hard because I think I have to score more runs in these crucial times. I forget what I am doing sometimes because I think too much.
Shubman Gill didn't play in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Gill played 3 games and batted 5 times but only scored 93 runs. His best was only 31 runs. Gill even had to sit out the last game in Melbourne.
Gill is 25 years old and needs to do better, especially because there's another important game is Champions Trophy. he's the Vice-captain. Shubman wants to prove to everyone he is talented and fulfill the demand to make the team win.
