Sarfaraz Khan Hospitalised, Mumbai Face Concern Ahead of Ranji QF vs Karnataka: Reports
Mumbai batter Sarfaraz Khan has been admitted to hospital ahead of Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy quarterfinal match against Karnataka. The match will be played at the MCA Ground on Friday, February 6.
As per a Times of India report, Sarfaraz is down with viral fever and may not be fit to play the knockout match. He was seen with the Mumbai team on Wednesday when former India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar met the players. A source said Sarfaraz has not been well for the past few days and was taken to hospital. This is also why he did not come out to field in Mumbai’s last match against Delhi. Right now, it is not sure if he will recover in time for the match against Karnataka.
Sarfaraz also had a hamstring problem in the Delhi match and scored 24 runs from 27 balls in the first innings. If he misses the game, it will be a big loss for Mumbai as he has been in good form this season. Earlier, Sarfaraz scored 227 runs from 219 balls against Hyderabad. He hit 19 fours and nine sixes in that innings. He also completed 5,000 runs in first-class cricket during that match.
Shardul Thakur will captain Mumbai in the quarterfinal, while Yashasvi Jaiswal will also return to the team. Both players had not played for Mumbai since the Ranji Trophy started again last month. Mumbai finished first in Group D with 33 points. They did not lose any match in the group stage, winning four games and drawing three. Mumbai are aiming to win their 43rd Ranji Trophy title. They last won the tournament in the 2023–24 season.
Mumbai squad for the Ranji Trophy quarterfinal against Karnataka:
