SA vs PAK: Corbin Bosch Makes History as First South African to Achieve Test Milestone

Corbin Bosch made history at SuperSport Park in Centurion on the second day of the first Test between South Africa and Pakistan. On his first test, 30-year-old Bosch became the first South African cricketer to score a fifty and take 4+ wickets. He was brought in as a replacement for the injured Keshav Maharaj and on day one, he gave a fantastic performance, claiming 4 wickets for 63 runs, which included one wicket on his very first delivery in Test cricket.

On day two, Bosch carried on his debut in style, smashing a quick fifty with the bat, going down in history. With this fantastic feat, he became the first South African to attain the rare double of a fifty and a 4+ wicket haul on debut in a Test match.

Players to Achieve the Rare Fifty and 4+ Wicket Haul on Test Debut Since 2000

This is only the third player of this century to achieve this, and he follows in the footsteps of Wanindu Hasaranga and Tim Southee. Hasaranga achieved this at SuperSport Park four years ago, making Bosch's feat even more memorable.

Bosch is the 16th player in Test history to achieve the rare double of scoring a fifty and taking 4+ wickets on debut. On day one, Bosch had a direct impact by getting Pakistan's captain, Shan Masood breaking an obdurate opening stand of 36 runs. Then he took the wickets of Saud Shakeel, Naseem Shah, and Aamer Jamal finishing with a brilliant four-wicket haul.

On the second day, South Africa was still at 191/7, trailing Pakistan by 20 runs. Bosch arrived and hammered an unbeaten 81 to take a lead of 90 runs for the Proteas. However, Bosch was left stranded as Dane Paterson, batting at No. 11, was dismissed in an attempt to hit Saim Ayub out of the park.
