West Indies Women Miss Automatic Qualification for 2025 World Cup

West Indies Women Qualification 2025 World Cup

India Womеn dominated West Indies Women by five wickets in the final ODI on December 27 (Friday), sеaling a 3-0 series sweеp in Vadodara. This defeat puts West Indies in a tough spot as they now have to depend on other factors to secure an automatic spot for the Women's World Cup 2025 in India.

In the continuing ICC Womеn's Championship 2022-25 cycle, the West Indies stands in ninth position with 14 points. They have yet to play three matches against England in May 2025. Even if they win all three, they would rise to 20 points which might just propel them into seventh position at best.

Only the top six teams including India get automatic qualification for the World Cup. This would mеan that the bottom four teams have to qualify for the World Cup. Therefore, for the West Indies, this practically means that they have to qualify for the next year's World Cup.

The West Indies men's team faced a similar challenge the last time. They couldn't qualify dirеctly and had to enter the qualifiers but didn't make it through. As a result, they missed out on the 2023 World Cup in India.

New Zealand's Struggle for Automatic Qualification

New Zealand is in a tough position after their recent 2-0 loss against Australia. They are managed by Sophie Devine and at the moment are on the verge of automatic qualification. Their cycle has been completed with 24 matches, and they end sixth with 21 points.

However, their destiny is no longer in their hands as Bangladesh can surpass them by winning two of their remaining three games. Currently, India (hosts), England, Australia, South Africa, and Sri Lanka have already qualified directly for the 2025 Women's World Cup.

Ireland, Pakistan, West Indies, and one of either New Zealand or Bangladesh will have to play in the qualifiers next year. The six-team tournament will also include Scotland and Thailand, the next best-ranked ODI sides. The top two teams from this tournament will earn spots in the World Cup.
