At the age of 16, Hasaranga played as a frontline seam bowler and even opened the bowling for Richmonds College cricket team. However, he switched to bowling leg-spin after witnessing a demonstration by his coach Lanka de Silva who taught him on how to bowl leg spin.
Hasaranga came into the limelight after he took a hat-trick with the ball on his ODI debut.
Hasaranga has a unique wicket-taking celebration and revealed it’s inspired by Brazil Paris Saint-Germain FC superstar Neymar Jr, who is his favourite footballer.
