IPL 2026 Trade Rumours: Sanju Samson to CSK, Ashwin and Dube to RR in Massive Swap Deal
The Sanju Samson trade buzz is back in the spotlight with a former IPL analyst recently hinting at a major move ahead of the next season. According to reports, an Indian off-spinner and a left-handed middle-order batter are likely to be traded in exchange for a wicketkeeper-batter. While no names were directly mentioned many believe this points toward a potential swap involving Ashwin and Dube moving to Rajasthan Royals with Sanju Samson possibly joining Chennai Super Kings. If true, it could be one of the biggest trades of the upcoming IPL season.
There’s no official confirmation yet, but a few reports suggest that Sanju Samson is open to leaving Rajasthan Royals and joining a bigger franchise, despite doing fairly well both as a batter and captain for RR. If the move to Chennai Super Kings does happen Samson might even be in line for the captaincy especially with Ruturaj Gaikwad reportedly having a mixed run as CSK skipper over the past one and a half seasons.
Sanju Samson has been one of the most dependable players in the IPL and really understands how the tournament works. On the other hand, both Ravichandran Ashwin and Shivam Dube bring a lot of experience, especially Ashwin, who’s been performing well for years across formats. If this trade does go through, it could be a smart move for both Rajasthan Royals and Chennai SuperKings, giving each team the kind of players they’re currently missing.
CSK Needs a New Wicketkeeper as Dhoni Slows Down
With the rise of young batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Samson was pushedtobat at No.3 during the second half of IPL 2025. However, he may prefer to return to the opening slot to boost his chances of staying in the mix for India’s national team. On the other side, CSK is expected to release Devon Conway, which creates a clear need for a top-order batter. Samson’s aggressive style and adaptability make him a strong candidate to fill that role.
CSK will also need a dependable wicketkeeper, especially with MS Dhoni showing signs of slowing down over the last couple of seasons. Although Ruturaj Gaikwad took on the captaincy, his leadership hasn’t quite lived up to expectations. Sanju Samson has led Rajasthan Royals with calm and maturity, could be a strong long-term option filling both the leadership and wicketkeeping roles that Dhoni handled so well for years.
As for Rajasthan Royals, they’ve struggled with consistent spin-hitting and a lack of dependable Indian spin options. Nitish Rana hasn’t quite delivered in that role, and overseas spinners like Maheesh Theekshana and Wanindu Hasaranga have been inconsistent. Bringing in Dube gives them one of India’s best spin-hitters who can adapt to different battingpositions, while Ashwin adds both quality spin and valuable experience having previously played with the franchise.
