Rawalpindiz name Jake Fraser-McGurk’s replacement for PSL 11

Rawalpindiz have replaced Jake Fraser-McGurk with New Zealand’s Cole McConchie after the former pulled out of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) at the last minute. Fraser-McGurk was earlier roped in by the debutant franchise for PKR 33.6 million; however, he withdrew from the league, citing personal reasons.

All-rounder replaces opening batter

McConchie joins the league just two days before the start on March 26. However, he is hardly a like-for-like replacement for Fraser-McGurk. McConchie plays in the middle order for New Zealand and also offers some handy off-spin.

Playing his first T20 World Cup this year, the 34-year-old had a few decent outings, especially against South Africa in the first semi-final, where he dismissed Quinton de Kock and Ryan Rickelton in one over to fizzle out their momentum.

McConchie debuts in franchise cricket

He also paired up with captain Mitchell Santner to score a 47-ball 84 against Sri Lanka to help New Zealand put up a decent total after the earlier batters failed to score big.

PSL will be McConchie’s debut franchise league, as he has only ever played in Super Smash, New Zealand’s domestic T20 league, previously. The all-rounder will join Rawalpindiz before their first game on March 28 against Peshawar Zalmi.

Updated Rawalpindiz Squad

Mohammad Rizwan (c), Sam Billings, Jalat Khan, Yasir Khan, Naseem Shah, Rishad Hossain, Daryl Mitchell, Mohammad Amir, Cole McConchie, Abdullah Fazal, Amad Butt, Dian Forrester, Laurie Evans, Asif Afridi, Kamran Ghulam, Fawad Ali, Mohammad Amir Khan, Shahzaib Khan and Saad Masood.
