Suryansh Shedge Replaces Injured Nitish Reddy in India Squad for Ireland and England Tour

Suryansh Shedge Replaces Injured Nitish Reddy in India Squad for Ireland and England Tour

[ Poll: QyEOQWZ6 ]

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has named Suryansh Shedge as the replacement for Nitish Kumar Reddy in India’s upcoming white-ball tour of Ireland and England. Earlier reports suggested that Nitish had been ruled out of the tour due to a quadriceps injury, and the BCCI has now officially confirmed the news.

Suryansh will join the squad as India prepares for the limited-overs series in Ireland and England. Nitish, who featured in the India vs Afghanistan ODI series, experienced some discomfort after he bowled 6 overs on June 20. The 23-year-old had missed the second game of the 3-match series due to a niggle but returned.

BCCI Names Suryansh Shedge as Nitish Reddy’s Replacement

However, that last game worsened things for Nitish. Following further assessment, he has been ruled out for at least a month. That means Nitish won’t feature in the 7 T20I matches against Ireland and England, from June 26 to July 11, and the 3-match ODI series against England, from July 14 to 19.

“Nitish reported left quadriceps discomfort after the third ODI against Afghanistan on June 20. Following a subsequent medical assessment, the BCCI Medical Team has recommended a period of rehabilitation, ruling him out of both T20I series,” the BCCI said in a statement.

The BCCI has handed a maiden India call-up to Suryansh Shedge, who was recently part of India A’s successful tri-series campaign in Sri Lanka. The Mumbai all-rounder impressed with his finishing ability, playing several quick cameos as well as important stabilizing innings when needed. He also contributed with the ball, bowling 23 overs across five matches as India A’s sixth bowling option. At the moment, he isn’t as skillful as Nitish, who can swing the ball, has increased his pace, and has nailed the yorkers for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League 2026.

However, as a project pick, Shedge is the right choice with massive upside. The Mumbaiker didn’t bowl for Punjab Kings but played some impactful knocks and has followed that up with an all-round performance for India A. One can’t forget that, like Nitish, Shedge is also just 23. Right now, Nitish seems like the Hardik Pandya replacement, and Shedge seems like the Nitish replacement.
