Chennai Super Kings Likely to Renew Stephen Fleming Contract for IPL 2027

Five years ago, the idea of asking Stephen Fleming to leave Chennai Super Kings (CSK) would have seemed unbelievable. He is the most successful coach in IPL history, guiding the team to five IPL titles and nine finals. Along with MS Dhoni, Fleming has played a major role in building CSK’s strong culture and consistent success.

Over the years, he has become much more than just a coach and is now considered one of the key faces of the franchise. But IPL is a ruthless business. Sentiment lasts only until results disappear. CSK have now finished fifth, tenth and eighth in their last three seasons. Across IPL 2024, 2025 and 2026, they have won just 17 matches while losing 25.

Stephen Fleming Likely to Continue as CSK Head Coach

Those results have naturally raised questions, as this is not the same CSK team that dominated and intimidated opponents throughout much of the 2010s. During IPL 2026, social media was filled with criticism from disappointed fans, with some even calling for Stephen Fleming to step down and make way for a new coach and fresh ideas. However, a report from Cricbuzz suggests CSK have absolutely no plans to move on from the New Zealander.

We previously had a report that CSK are yet to take a call on Fleming despite some links to Rahul Dravid for the role. According to the Cricbuzz report, Fleming is expected to continue as Chennai Super Kings head coach for IPL 2027, with his contract set to be renewed once again. The 52-year-old’s deal is renewed annually, but within the franchise there appears to be little uncertainty over his future despite another underwhelming campaign.
