BCCI Takes Special Step for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi After India Call-Up, Parents to Travel With Him

BCCI Takes Special Step for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi After India Call-Up, Parents to Travel With HimThe BCCI has taken a special step to support young batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi after his maiden India call-up. The 15-year-old was named in India’s T20I squad for the upcoming tours of Ireland and England, becoming one of the youngest players ever to earn a place in the national team.

Despite his rapid rise, Sooryavanshi is still a teenager who is learning to deal with life in the spotlight. Earlier this year, he grabbed headlines with his performances in the IPL and even won a car as a reward. However, being only 15 years old, he will not be legally eligible to drive it for another three years.

The BCCI is keen to ensure that the youngster receives the right guidance as he begins his international journey. Cricket history has seen several prodigious talents struggle with the pressures of fame, and the board wants to create a strong support system around Sooryavanshi during this important phase of his career.

One example often cited is that of Prithvi Shaw. Like Sooryavanshi, Shaw was regarded as a generational talent from a very young age. He made his India debut as a teenager and became the second-youngest Indian to score a Test century after Sachin Tendulkar. However, his career lost momentum, and he has not represented India since 2021.

The BCCI is also mindful of similar cases from other sports. Tennis star Jennifer Capriati became a global sensation at just 14 years of age but later struggled with the pressures that accompanied her fame. While she eventually returned to achieve great success, her journey highlighted the challenges faced by young athletes thrust into the spotlight.

Special Support for India's Teenage Sensation

To help Sooryavanshi adjust to life on tour, the BCCI has granted special permission for his parents, Aarti and Sanjeev Sooryavanshi, to travel with him to Ireland and England. His father is also expected to accompany him during the India A tri-series in Sri Lanka before the senior team assignments.

Explaining the decision, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told Sportstar, “As he is a child, we have decided to allow his parents to accompany him to Ireland and England, so that they can be with him and help him settle in the new environment. The Board will cover all their expenses.”

This is not the first time the BCCI has adopted a special approach for a teenage prodigy. When Sachin Tendulkar made his international debut at the age of 16 in 1989, his elder brother Ajit accompanied him on the tour of Pakistan. By allowing Sooryavanshi’s parents to travel with him, the board hopes to provide similar support and ensure that one of Indian cricket’s brightest young talents develops both on and off the field.
