Even a '1% chance' would have been enough, says Kohli, recalling MCG 2022 vs Pakistan

Even a '1% chance' would have been enough, says Kohli, recalling MCG 2022 vs PakistanWith three overs to spare, India were 48 runs short of the target against Pakistan in the 2022 T20 World Cup game at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Kohli against the odds

The asking rate had gone up to 16, while the current run rate was a tick above a run-a-ball. Pakistan were arguably on the front foot, but Virat Kohli turned the game on its head in an unreal way and steered his side to win on the last ball.

Recalling that game, where he scored a match-winning 82 off 53, Kohli recently said that his side had roughly a 3% chance of winning the game. But he never pays heed to such numbers, as was evident from how he came from behind to win the game.

"I'm craving the situation when people feel like it's gone, and then somehow you can manage to pull the game back. That's how I look at the situation from a very young age. I never stopped believing right till the very end that you can't win," said Kohli.

"The one incident that always stands out for me is the game against Pakistan; the chances of winning the game were 3% or something, but I've never thought like that; if 1% chance, that chance is enough for me."

India vs Pakistan at the MCG

In their previous T20 World Cup fixture before MCG 2022, Pakistan had famously downed India, in what was their first win against the arch-rivals in the competition's history. The game at the MCG seemed to be going that way as well, but Kohli's innings, paired with a shoddy display of bowling by Pakistan pacers, steered the game to a different conclusion.
