Haris Rauf's expensive over hands Unicorns a loss in their opening MLC game

Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf had a rough start to his Major League Cricket (MLC) stint this year. Representing the San Francisco Unicorns, who have retained him for their fourth season since the league's inception in 2023, Rauf bowled 2.5 wicketless overs, conceding a whopping 38 runs.

Haris got off to a terrible start

Haris had a sloppy start, as it took him three tries to bowl his first legal delivery. Ending on just eight runs seemed a decent recovery for an over that started with two wides. However, what happened in the next over not only ruined Haris' numbers but also fizzled Unicorns' momentum.

Haris conceded 23 runs in the eleventh over of a 14-over rain-truncated game, tilting the game against his team. Colin Munro and Jason Holder took turns in sending the Pakistan pacer for well-timed boundaries as they made up for a dip in their run rate after brilliant bowling by Peter Siddle and Brody Couch.

Unicorns eventually lost the game by seven wickets, with the final runs coming in Haris' over.

Can Haris top the previous season highs?

Haris was earlier retained by Unicorns after his breakout stint last season, where he grabbed 17 wickets in eight games. With that tally, he also finished the competition as the second-highest wicket-taker. Despite playing three games fewer than the leading wicket-taker, Xavier Bartlett, Haris trailed him by only one wicket.

In total, the Pakistan pacer has 28 wickets in 22 games across three seasons at an average of 25.64.
