Injury Blow for England: Gus Atkinson Likely to Miss India first Test Due to Hamstring Problem
Gus Atkinson Injury: England fast bowler Gus Atkinson is likely to miss the first Test match against India. He hurt his right hamstring during the game against Zimbabwe and has been recovering since then. Though it’s not confirmed yet, this might be another injury worry for the England team. They haven’t announced their squad yet, and their fast bowling options are already facing some issues
Injury Worries for England’s Pace Attack Ahead of India Test
England’s fast bowling line-up has a few concerns. Ben Stokes has only just started bowling again after a long break and returned to action against Zimbabwe. Jofra Archer played in the IPL, but it's still not clear how fit he is. Chris Woakes is coming back from an ankle injury, and Mark Wood might not be fully ready either, as he had knee surgery in March. Olly Stone is also in a similar situation and may not be at his best.
“Gus Atkinson is a doubt for the first Test against India later this month because of a right hamstring strain – adding to England’s injury concerns among their seamers,” a report in BBC read. Meanwhile, coming back to Atkinson, the 27-year-old had suffered the injury during the Zimbabwe Test only.
Gus Atkinson’s Strong Form Makes Him Crucial for England
Gus Atkinson has been in great form, he's taken 55 wickets in just 12 matches and even scored a century. So, he’s a key player for England right now. With the second unofficial Test between India A and England Lions starting on June 6, it’ll be interesting to see which fast bowlers the team picks for the match.
The Indian team has already started flying out to England in small groups for the first Test. KL Rahul has also reached there and will be playing in the second match for India A.
