Women’s T20 World Cup registers new viewership highs, Pakistan vs India fixture breaks record
The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup had more eyeballs than ever before in the history of women’s cricket during the Pakistan vs India clash at Edgbaston on Sunday.
Pakistan vs India game breaks records
Edgbaston was a sell-out for the fixture, as 18,814 spectators flocked to the ground for the game, making it the highest-attended group-stage match in the history of the Women’s T20 World Cup.
The Pakistan vs India clash broke its own previous record from the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup, when 15,935 fans were present in Dubai for the game. Additionally, digital viewership was at an all-time high as well.
One of India’s live-streaming platforms recorded 134 million views, which accounted for 1.1 billion minutes of watch time for the game. This is the highest digital reach for any group-stage game in any format of women’s cricket.
Opening weekend grabs eyeballs
Besides the Pakistan-India clash, the opening weekend of the World Cup generally attracted plenty of fans, both on the ground and digitally. A total of 44,844 fans were in attendance for the first three games of the tournament, which broke the record of 34,680 attendees at the Women’s ODI World Cup last year.
Across digital platforms, the opening weekend gathered 753 million views, which is a 150 per cent increase compared to the opening weekend of the 2024 edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup.
