Australia’s T20I Squad for West Indies Tour Announced — Marsh Back as Skipper, Key IPL Players Missing

Australia’s T20I Squad for West Indies Tour Announced — Marsh Back as Skipper, Key IPL Players MissingOn June 4, Cricket Australia announced their 16-player squad for the five-game T20 series in the West Indies next month. Mitchell Marsh is back as captain taking over from Josh Inglis, who led the team during the home Pakistan series before the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25. A few Test players are taking a break for this tour.

Mitchell Owen, who filled in for the injured Glenn Maxwell in the IPL 2025 runners-up team earned his first T20I selection. Owen was the leading run-scorer in the 2024–25 Big Bash League and hit a record century in the final for the Hobart Hurricanes.

Left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann is set to make his T20I debut. Travis Head along with a few other Test players like Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc will skip this tour. Steve Smith is still missing out despite saying he wants to play T20Is. A big name not in the squad is all-rounder Marcus Stoinis. He no longer has a central contract and isn’t tied to any other T20 league right now. However, he’ll play for the Major League Cricket team Texas Super Kings before the first T20I.

Glenn Maxwell will return to action for the first time since getting injured in the IPL and announcing his ODI retirement.

"We have a busy T20 schedule coming up … as we continue to refine and build a squad we think will be the right fit for the World Cup on the subcontinent. There are a number of players outside the squad who can still force their way into the mix for those upcoming Indian series and through the Big Bash." said chief selector George Bailey.

"The connection, role development and combinations we will have as options are growing nicely as we build towards the World Cup. It’s an exciting time in our T20 space." George added.
