Ajit Agarkar Did Not Seek 2027 Extension, BCCI Confirms

A lot is happening in the BCCI. Along with the preparations for the 2026 edition of the Indian Premier League, the board is also preparing for the international matches to be played in the future. 

On Thursday, it was reported that the Chief Selector of the Indian cricket team, Ajit Agarkar, had requested an extension of his contract up to the 2027 edition of the World Cup. However, an update from PTI states otherwise. 

A senior official of the BCCI has denied the news of the selectors being offered an extension of the contract. He said that the selectors are under the BCCI and their contract is only valid till September.

Agarkar took over as chief selector in July 2023. Since then, he has played a key role in shaping Team India, particularly after several seniors from Test and T20I cricket called it a day.

he said that,

“Ajit’s contract ends in September and after that BCCI secretary and Ajit will have to decide whether he would continue till next year’s ODI World Cup. A senior selector can continue upto four years as per constitution and he doesn’t need to seek an extension,” 

The selection committee is also working hard. All selectors watch matches regularly and keep an eye on players. Their primary focus is on 20 players who can feature in upcoming ICC events and other competitions like Asian Games and Olympics.
