IND-W Secure Spot in Super Six with 60-Run Victory Over SL-W in U19 Women’s T20 World Cup

India U19 women's team put in a great all-around show to win the match against Sri Lanka by 60 runs in the Women's U19 T20 World Cup in Kuala Lumpur. On a tough pitch, India scored 118 for 9 in 20 overs, thanks to a vital knock of 49 runs by Gongadi Trisha. Trisha played the innings together like glue while the Lanka spinners made their task of scoring rather tough. In response, India's bowling, supported with good fielding, restricted the Sri Lankan team to a mere 58 for 9 in 20 overs. The player of the match was Trisha for her good effort.

Indian captain Niki Prasad played it safe by sticking to her fast bowlers, Shabnam Shakil and Joshitha VJ despite the pitch being a spinner's paradise. The pacers were brilliant, and by the end of the powerplay, Sri Lanka was 26 for 5. Then Niki introduced the spin trio of Aayushi Shukla, Vaishnavi Sharma, and Parunika Sisodia who took four wickets in 12 overs and gave away just 23 runs.

Aseni Thalagune and Pramudi Methsara fought for the stabilization of the innings. Aseni played 30 balls while Pramudi remained not out on seven off 28 balls which made her team bat the whole 20 overs but still short by 60 runs of the target.

Sri Lanka captain Manudi Nanayakkara won the toss and chose to bowl and it looked the right decision when her team came in to bat. It was Pramudi’s first over and she had bowled a two-wicket maiden, having got the wickets of G Kamalini and Sanika Chalke. For Sanika, it was a tough birthday, getting out for a four-ball duck. On a turning pitch, Sri Lanka’s spinners, Chamodi Praboda, Shashini Gimhani, Limansa Thilakarathna, and Aseni knew what they were doing and made the most of it. Seven of India’s nine wickets fell to spin.

She even under pressure kept her cool and did well on a difficult track. It was an aggressive knock with a strike rate of 111.36, hitting all around the ground. She could have made that half-century. Joshitha's quick cameo of 14 runs towards the end helped India post a defending score of 118.

India ended its group stage unbeaten and was on top of Group A after this victory. This was the first encounter of the 'Super Six' stage, and it proved a perfect rehearsal for Indian batsmen as they were up against the tight bowling of Sri Lanka. Indians responded well and the bowlers as usual, came out winners.
