New Zealand secured their first victory in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 by defeating Bangladesh by 100 runs in Guwahati. Captain Sophie Devine played a great innings and the bowlers worked together to bowl Bangladesh out for 127.
New Zealand won the toss and opted to bat first, aiming to capitalize on the pitch conditions. Thanks to half-centuries from Devine (63) and Brooke Halliday (69), New Zealand scored 227 runs for 9 wickets in their 50 overs. Rabeya Khan was the standout bowler for Bangladesh taking 3 wickets for 30 runs in her 10 overs.
Bangladesh’s top order collapsed early, falling three wickets in the powerplay courtesy of Rosemary Mair and Jess Kerr. Number six Fahima Khatun was the top scorer with 34 runs, supported only by Rabeya Khan (25) and Nahida Akter (17).
Jess Kerr took 3 wickets for 21 runs, Lea Tahuhu got 3/22 in her 100th ODI, and Rosemary Mair picked 2/20 in her first match of the tournament. Amelia Kerr and Eden Carson kept the scoring low with spin, with Carson taking the last wicket in the 40th over. With this win, New Zealand moves up to fifth place, just above Bangladesh.
