Kerala Ranji Trophy 2025-26 Squad Announced: Sanju Samson Returns, Azharuddeen Named Captain
The Kerala Cricket Association announced its squad for the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy season with Sanju Samson returning to the team. Mohammed Azharuddeen will be the captainand B Aparajith has been named his deputy. In a surprise move, Sachin Baby, who had led Kerala to their first-ever Ranji Trophy finalwas not given a leadership role this time.
The 15-player squad has been picked for the first match against Maharashtra. Basil Thampi, who missed the preparatory camp has been left out. Sanju Samson, the T20I specialist, will also miss the next three matches as he will be in Australia for the white-ball series.
So far, he has played 65 first-class matches, scoring 3,834 runs at an average of 39. This includes 11 centuries, 16 fifties, and even a double century. With players like Azharuddeen and Salman Nizar performing really well last year, it’s still unclear where Sanju will bat in the order. Kerala is in Elite Group B, along with Karnataka, Punjab, Saurashtra, Maharashtra, MP, Chandigarh and Goa.
