Delhi Capitals crush Kolkata Knight Riders by 40 runs to finish 6th in IPL 2026

[ Poll: QLlEb4Zp ]

Delhi Capitals finished their season in 6th place with a dominant 40-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens. They delivered an excellent all-round performance with both bat and ball to end their IPL 2026 campaign on a high. KKR lost 7 out of their 14 matches this season.

KKR won the toss and elected to bowl first on their home turf. KL Rahul's brilliant 60 in 30 balls and Axar Patel's attacking 39 off 25 deliveries helped them to 203/5. Left arm seamer Saurabh Dubey picked up 2/28, Varun Chakaravarthy was tidy with 1/35 amd Sunil Narine picked up 1/38 on the bowling front.

The hosts got off to a good start with Finn Allen (20 off 13) and Ajinkya Rahane (63 off 39) adding 43 runs for the first wicket in 4.2 overs. Lungi Ngidi was introduced in the 5th and got a breakthrough straightaway making Allen chopping back on the stumps. Manish Pandey at number 3 got off to an attacking start for the 44-run partnership with Ngidi coming back to strike in the 9th over with a slight drizzle picking up.

DC beat KKR by 40 runs to finish 6th in IPL 2026

Cameron Green's season came to a disappointing end as he only managed a couple of runs before Kuldeep Yadav had the better of him. Rovman Powell joined Rahane at the crease to add 32 runs for the 4th wicket but the key partnership was broken when Kuldeep had Rahane caught and dismissed Rinku Singh for a golden duck only to see Abishek Porel drop Tejasvi Dahiya on the hat-trick ball.

The quick wickets helped DC chart a comeback in the game. Powell hit 29 off 21 balls but no other batter after him could get a start and partnerships were scarce. The pacers took over from Kuldeep and Axar Patel and wrapped things up by dismissing KKR for 163 in 18.4 overs.

Kuldeep's 3/29 were the best figures on display either sides, Ngidi finished a terrific season with 3/27, Mitchell Starc picked up his 2 wickets in the third over conceding only 26 and skipper Axar rattled Tejasvi Dahiya's stumps to finish with 1/38 with only uncapped Auqib Nabi and Madhav Tiwari finishing wicketless.
