Azan Awais joins Younis Khan, Javed Miandad after a century on Test debut
Opening batter Azan Awais hit the ground running as he notched up a century against Bangladesh in his debut Test game. In doing so, he has joined the likes of Javed Miandad and Younis Khan, becoming the fourteenth Pakistani batter to achieve the milestone. Besides making it onto this list, Azan’s knock was played against a high-class Bangladesh bowling attack as he built two century stands with Imam-ul-Haq and Abdullah Fazal, respectively.
Trailing Bangladesh’s first-innings total of 413, Pakistan’s top order, including two debutants, Azan and Abdullah, absorbed the pressure and scored the bulk of the runs. Azan was dismissed in the first session on day three after he miscued a shot off Taskin Ahmed’s delivery.
Azan is only the third Pakistani batter to score a Test century on debut in away conditions, besides Umar Akmal and Fawad Alam.
