Pakistan players rise in Test rankings despite crushing whitewash against Bangladesh
Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood, Babar Azam, and Salman Ali Agha have moved up in the Test rankings following the away series against Bangladesh. The batters' progress in the rankings comes despite the side's 2-0 loss against the hosts.
Babar Azam improves rankings
Babar Azam, who missed the opening Test through injury and featured only in the second, scored 115 runs across both innings. This helped him move one place to the 22nd spot.
Besides Babar, Shan, who scored 102 runs across both Tests, also improved his rankings as he jumped two positions to the 44th spot. The left-handed batter, however, is under intense scrutiny for his unwanted captaincy records, one of which is enduring two consecutive whitewashes against Bangladesh.
Salman gets rewarded
Salman Ali Agha, who came in clutch for Pakistan lower down the order in both games, now occupies the 27th spot. The batting all-rounder scored 176 runs in two games and extended Pakistan's lifeline in the second Test by stitching a partnership with Mohammad Rizwan. Rizwan, meanwhile, retained his 21st position as he amassed 181 runs in the series, including a hard-fought 94.
Pakistan have dropped to ninth in the WTC standings following the whitewash. They will now tour West Indies in their next Test assignment in July. This series will be followed by another away tour against England, which begins on August 19.
