Representing the Republic of Namibia in international cricket, the Namibia men’s national cricket team, nicknamed the Eagles, is managed by Cricket Namibia. They became an associate member of the International Cricket Council in 1992.

Prior to Namibia’s independence in 1990, a team representing South West Africa competed in South African domestic competitions. After joining the ICC, Namibia quickly became one of the leading ICC associate members in Africa. In 2001, Namibia finished second at the ICC Trophy to qualify for the 2003 Cricket World Cup hosted by South Africa, marking the country’s One Day International (ODI) debut, though they failed to win any matches. Starting in 2004, Namibia participated in every ICC Intercontinental Cup, finishing as runner-up in 2007-2008. The team also regularly competed at the highest levels of the World Cricket League (WCL), including two WCL Championship appearances, and placed third at the 2012 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier.

The earliest record of cricket in Windhoek dates back to 1909, when South West Africa was a German colony. During World War I in 1914, South African troops began an assault in the region. Cricket was played at the Okonjande prisoner of war camp near Otjiwarongo. After Germany’s defeat, South Africa captured South West Africa. The League of Nations then placed it under the mandate of the Union of South Africa. Following this, cricket was regularly played in the Western Province. The South West Africa Cricket Union formed in 1930, and the first organized matches were played in the region. In 1961–62, South West Africa began participating in the South African Country Cricket Association’s annual competition.
