Zimbabwe Set to Host Sri Lanka for ODI and T20I Series from August 29 Before T20 WC Qualifiers

Sri Lanka tour of Zimbabwe 2025 scheduleZimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has confirmed that the Sri Lanka men’s team will tour Zimbabwe for an exciting white-ball series, with all matches taking place at the Harare Sports Club. According to the schedule, the two teams will play ODIs on August 29 and 31, followed by three T20Is on September 3, 6 and 7. The T20 matches will also help Zimbabwe get ready for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Regional Final, which they’ll host from September 19 to October 4.

This regional tournament will decide the final two African teams that will qualify for the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

“We’re thrilled to confirm Sri Lanka’s tour of Zimbabwe, and we’re looking forward to an exciting and competitive series. Games between our two sides have always been entertaining and this tour is especially important as we gear up for the T20 World Cup qualifiers,” said ZC Managing Director Givemore Makoni.

Zimbabwe's Continued World Cup Woes and Qualification Struggles

The last time Zimbabwe took part in the Africa qualifiers for the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup, they failed to make it through, with Uganda and Namibia grabbing the two available spots. Zimbabwe’s last appearance in a T20 World Cup was in 2022 held in Australia, where they were knocked out early in the tournament. Since then, a string of disappointing results in qualifiers has seen them miss out on the 2024 edition in the West Indies and USA as well as the 2019 and 2023 world cups. Failing to make the cut for the 2023 edition in India also cost Zimbabwe a chance to compete in the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Sri Lanka, meanwhile, last visited Zimbabwe in 2023 for the ODI World Cup Qualifiers. However, they haven’t played a full bilateral series there since 2016. Right now, the Sri Lankan team is hosting Bangladesh in a complete series that includes two Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is. Later this year, Zimbabwe is also expected to host Afghanistan for an all-format series adding to their busy cricket calendar.
