WTC Points Table Update: India Eliminated After Sydney Loss, Australia Secures Spot in Final Against South Africa
Team India’s journey in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) came to an end as they couldn’t secure a place in the final because on Sunday they lost the fifth Test against Australia in Sydney. After the match, Australia retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy by beating India in the series 3-1 after 10 years since India lost the Border-Gavaskar trophy in such a manner.
Australia just clinched their spot in the WTC final again, and the WTC final will take place at Lord's from July 11 to 15, 2025. They're going to face South Africa in the WTC final. It's officially the second time in a row to qualify for the final
Australia's victory over India increased their points percentage (PCT) from 61.45 to 63.72, making their spot even safer. The loss made India's PCT fall from 52.77 to 50.00, yet they remained in third place, even with eight losses in the current WTC cycle. Australia, who had already beaten India in the previous WTC final at the Oval in 2023, has Pat Cummins' team preparing carefully to face South Africa next.
AUS vs SA Head-to-Head Stats in Tests
Australia and South Africa are facing off, and when looking at their past Test cricket matches Australia has won more games, 54-26, but they're about to play their first neutral Test match at Lord's for the first time after many years.
India's hope to hit their third straight WTC final was completely ruined in the last three months. They began with a 0-3 whitewash at home to New Zealand in November and faced six defeats.
