Rohit sharma And Virat Kohli's Test Future In Doubt For England Tour
Rohit Sharma is sitting out for the Sydney Test because he hasn't been batting well in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar series. Since India won't have any test matches until June, many people think Rohit and Virat Kohli have to really prove their skills if they want to be picked for the tour in England.
Kohli and Rohit haven't been doing very well in Test cricket these days. Kohli still only hit 190 runs in nine innings with a major 100 in Perth and a 36 in Melbourne standing out. Although, besides those, his performance wasn't too impressive. Meanwhile, Rohit only scored 31 runs over five innings and did not make any impact. He even sat out for the Sydney Test.
Rohit decided not to play in the Sydney Test, but he made it clear that he's not thinking about retirement and he wants to keep playing, but according to the reports securing a place for the England tour might be tough for him. When it comes to Kohli. Even though he's been struggling recently and continues to get out the same way, some believe he might have another shot to improve his batting
Ravi Shastri backs Virat Kohli
"Virat Kohli will definitely play," Ravi Shastri told Star Sports. "Forget how he got out today. He has at least three to four years left in him. As for Rohit, it's a tough call. His footwork at the top of the order isn't what it used to be, and at times, he's late in meeting the ball. It's his decision at the end of this series."
However, a former selector raised concerns about picking players like Rohit and Kohli based on IPL performances. "It's difficult to select either Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli for Tests based on IPL form. They need to play some red-ball cricket before the England tour to justify their selections," the former selector told PTI.
The Ranji Trophy, which is part of India's red-ball cricket season, is going to start again. Kohli is supposed to play for Delhi in a match against Saurashtra in Rajkot, from January 23 to 26. However, it doesn't seem like he's going to play, which could mess up his opportunity to play in the test series in June.
