“Rohit Sharma Took the Right Step for the Team”: Gambhir Praises Indian Captain

This is because India did not have another pace bowler who could take some of the workload of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj and this cost the team dearly which resulted in the loss. Thus, Australia took the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 by defeating India 3-1 in the series. The Indian batting also did not live up to the expectations as the only two batsmen who showed some fight were Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul. This was due to the fact that the senior players, including the captain Rohit Sharma, did not have big innings which made India’s task even more difficult.
Realizing the fact that his presence may enhance the chances of losing rather than winning, Indian captain Rohit Sharma made a right decision of stepping down from captaincy and let Jasprit Bumrah handle the captaincy duties for the team he had captained since 2022. However, the decision that was made did not yield the right outcome but the head coach Gautam Gambhir applauded it as brave and strategic.
Before backing up his captain, Gambhir blasted those who spreading fake news under the guise of news reports.“There could have been more sensibility when the reports were written,” Gambhir told the reporters in Sydney.
The former Indian opener then praised Rohit Sharma for his decision. "When a captain takes such call, it’s not a bad thing. Everyone must prioritize the team, and Rohit did just that. Accountability starts from the top, and Rohit Sharma took the first step," Gambhir added.
Gautam Gambhir - There is nothing wrong if the captain decided to stood down himself due to our of form. I think everyone should put the team first and captain Rohit Sharma did that. 🫡❤️ @ImRo45 pic.twitter.com/YNjuuwHGSH
