WI vs AUS: West Indies Announce Test Squad for Australia Series; Chase Takes Over as Skipper

WI vs AUS: West Indies Announce Test Squad for Australia SeriesCricket West Indies (CWI) has announced a 16-player squad for the upcoming three-Test series against Australia, starting later this month in Barbados. Roston Chase will lead the team and there are a few fresh faces in the mix. White-ball regulars Brandon King, Kevlon Anderson and fast bowler Johann Layne have all received their first-ever Test call-ups. Shai Hope, who captains the white-ball side and opener John Campbell have also been brought back into the squad. The biggest surprise, however, is the omission of veteran pacer Kemar Roach, who hasn't made the cut this time.

Head coach Daren Sammy spoke about Brandon King’s inclusion, calling it a key part of their plan to build a stronger Test team. With Kemar Roach missing out, the fast-bowling duties will now rest on the shoulders of Jayden Seales, Alzarri Joseph, and Shamar Joseph. Roston Chase will lead the side in the upcoming series.

“I have full faith in this group,” Sammy said. “We want to make our home grounds a fortress again, and for that, we need our fans to back us all the way. It’s going to be a tough journey, but we’re up for the fight.”

Big Names Miss Out as West Indies Eyes Fresh Start for Australia Tests

Several familiar faces have missed out on the West Indies Test squad this time, including Joshua Da Silva, Alick Athanaze, Amir Jangoo, Kavem Hodge, Gudakesh Motie, and Kevin Sinclair. Da Silva’s exclusion came as a surprise, especially since he was the second-highest run-scorer in the West Indies Championship. After making big changes to the squad that toured Pakistan, head coach Daren Sammy said the team is looking to move in a new direction and try out fresh ideas.

The Test series between West Indies and Australia will start on June 25 at Kensington Oval in Barbados. However, both teams will officially begin their World Test Championship (WTC) campaign with the third and final Test, which will be a day-night match played with a pink ball. That game is set to begin on July 12 at Sabina Park in Jamaica.
