Venkatesh Prasad Becomes KSCA President After Historic Win Against KN Shanth Kumar

Former India fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad has been chosen as the new president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) on Sunday, December 7. Alongside him, Santosh Menon was elected as secretary, and Sujith Somasunder will serve as Vice-President. Prasad defeated KN Shanth Kumar in the elections to take on this new role. The former pacer, who represented India in 33 Tests and 196 ODIs, has served as the vice-president of the association in the past. Prasad won the election against Shanth Kumar 749-558 as a total of 1307 members voted on Sunday.

Somasunder won the election to the post of vice-president ahead of D. Vinod Shivappa with a tally of 719-588. Sujith Somasunder gave up his job as Education Head at the BCCI Centre of Excellence to take part in the elections. BN Madhukar won the KSCA treasurer’s post by beating MS Vinay with a vote count of 736-571. Santosh Menon became the new secretary after a close contest with ES Jairam, winning 675-632.

The panel led by Prasad got support from his former India and Karnataka teammates, Javagal Srinath and Anil Kumble, and won the four main positions in the association. Former India women’s player Kalpana Venkatachar (764 votes) and former Karnataka wicketkeeper-batsman Avinash Vaidya (691 votes), both from Prasad’s panel, won as representatives of the Bangalore Zone, along with Aashish Amarlall, who got 703 votes. 

The biggest challenge for Prasad in his new role will be to bring top-level cricket back to the state, after it got sidelined following the stampede near the Chinnaswamy stadium after RCB's IPL title win this year, which saw the death of 11 people. The venue was completely left out of the T20 World Cup 2026 venues, and its future role in the IPL is still uncertain.
