RCB Return to Chinnaswamy Stadium Uncertain as KSCA Reviews Conditional Permission
In Bengaluru, M Chinnaswamy Stadium has not hosted an IPL match since before the 2025 RCB Title Celebration tragedy that left 11 dead and many others injured. The Karnataka state government has provided conditional clearance for RCB to host IPL matches there. Before the final decision, Karnataka Home Minister G. Parmeshwara will meet with officials from the KSCA and RCB regarding the conditions of the permission.
The final decision will be made after all of the authorities (City Officials, Police Officials, Legal Officials) conduct a review of all the safety issues. All three types of officials will submit their review to the Home Minister by Wednesday.
G Parameshwara said that,
“The IPL matches are approaching. KSCA President Venkatesh Prasad, spokesperson Vinay and RCB representatives met me. They asked me for permission, and we have given conditional permission. But they are saying this has to be discussed, so I gave them time until Wednesday. We are calling the BBMP commissioner, the Police commissioner, and the Law representatives. So on Wednesday, we will take a call. Discuss all pros and cons,”

In January, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) expressed concern about changes to an existing law made by the Karnataka government after the recent stampede at the Bengaluru stadium. According to a BCCI source, the new law creates liability for any unpleasant occurrences inside or outside of public thoroughfares leading to the stadium against the cricket team that plays in that stadium. Sources also indicated that RCB planned to move selected matches from the Bengaluru stadium to the DY Patil stadium in Mumbai, but would first require a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from both the Mumbai Indians and the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).
At the same time, KSCA president Venkatesh Prasad is working with his team to relocate cricket to Bengaluru. Work on the renovation of M. Chinnaswamy stadium is being conducted according to the recommendations made by the Justice Cunha Committee and is expected to include elimination of existing entry/exits as well as the installation of modern emergency exit systems. Completion of all construction and renovation for M. Chinnaswamy Stadium is expected to be completed by February.
