South Africa tour of Zimbabwe: South Africa Announces 16-Member Test Squad for Zimbabwe 2025, Dewald Brevis Included

South Africa Announces 16-Member Test Squad for Zimbabwe 2025, Dewald Brevis IncludedCricket South Africa announced their 16-man squad on Friday, June 6, for the upcoming two-match Test series against Zimbabwe. It’s more than just a regular series it’s the perfect warm-up for South Africa before the big ICC World Test Championship final, where they’ll take on Australia at Lord’s with the title on the line.

Right after the WTC Final 2025 ends, the South African team will head to Zimbabwe for a two-Test series. The first match will start on June 28 at Queen’s Sports Club in Bulawayo and the second Test will follow there on July 6. For this tour, Cricket South Africa has decided to rest six players who were part of the WTC Final squad: Aiden Markram, Ryan Rickelton, Tristan Stubbs, Marco Jansen and Kagiso Rabada. Also, Dane Paterson might retire after the WTC Final at Lord’s, which is why he isn’t included in the Zimbabwe squad.

Even with some important players missing, CSA has picked a thrilling squad for the Zimbabwe tour, including five players who haven’t played Tests before. One exciting addition is 19-year-old batting talent Lhuan-dre Pretorius, who’s earned his spot after some standout performances and is set to make his international debut on this trip. Alongside Pretorius, Dewald Brevis, Lesego Senokwane, Codi Yusuf and Prenelan Subrayen could all get their first Test caps for South Africa during the series, showing that the team is already thinking about the future. Pretorius has already made a big impact in his short first-class career, scoring three hundreds in just five matches.

Dewald Brevis Back in South Africa’s Test Squad After Impressive Domestic Season

Dewald Brevis was in South Africa’s Test squad for the Bangladesh tour last year but didn’t get to play. Now he has another shot at making his Test debut. He really earned this chance by being the second-highest scorer in the recent domestic season with 573 runs in 12 innings. His steady form scoring two hundreds and two fifties was a big reason he got called up.

South Africa will be missing three of their fast bowlers Gerald Coetzee, Nandre Burger and Lizaad Williams for the Test series in Zimbabwe because of injuries. Coetzee is dealing with a groin strain, Burger is still getting over a back issue and Williams is nearly finished recovering from knee surgery. Burger has been cleared to play T20s, but he’ll ease back into Test cricket slowly. Coetzee’s focus is on a long-term recovery plan so he’s fit for future Tests. In their place, Kwena Maphaka will lead the pace attack alongside Lungi Ngidi. It’s worth noting that Anrich Nortje wasn’t included in the squad.

South Africa Test Squad vs Zimbabwe

Temba Bavuma, Keshav Maharaj, Lungi Ngidi, Dewald Brevis, David Bedingham, Kyle Verreynne, Tony de Zorzi, Wiaan Mulder, Kwena Maphaka, Zubayr Hamza, Matthew Breetzke, Corbin Bosch, Codi Yusuf, Prenelan Subrayen, Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Lesego Senokwane.
