Big Boost for CSK? MS Dhoni Likely Return at MA Chidambaram Stadium

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) didn’t just lose to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), they struggled in all areas. This is their third loss in a row, and now they have to rethink their plans early in the season. CSK lost two of their most influential players before the season opener. MS Dhoni and Dewald Brevis. It stood out how incomplete this side has looked without MS Dhoni and Dewald Brevis. One brings control, the other brings chaos. Right now, CSK have neither.

According to The Indian Express, there might be a chance of Dhoni making an appearance for the Chennai Super Kings against Delhi Capitals at Chepauk stadium on Saturday if he passes the upcoming test he is scheduled to take within days. Also nearing a return from his injury is Brevis, who has missed all the games up to now. Dhoni has yet to make an appearance due to his calf injury he suffered while training prior to this season starting.

CSK Await Dhoni and Brevis Return to Revive Campaign

He hasn’t travelled with the team for away matches and was also not at the stadium for the Punjab Kings game. But he is still involved with the team in some way. Dhoni has been training regularly, spending long hours batting in the nets at the MAC B ground and the main square. Those sessions have been without visible discomfort, which suggests he is not far away. CSK have been careful with him, and that is understandable. But the way their batting has drifted in his absence, it is hard to ignore how much they need him back.

The addition of Dhoni brings wisdom and cleverness. The old saying, "there was someone in the past that changed the game from behind the stumps" may come to fruition again. Ruturaj Gaikwad has not yet found his form, the middle order is not settled, and the team continues to struggle with closing out games. Although Dhoni may not bat many balls in the last few overs of an innings, he still has the ability to change the direction of the game in the last few overs. The team misses Brevis for several reasons as he was to be that player for the team in the middle overs; he was to be the one who helped shift momentum fairly quickly.

The South African picked up a side strain before the season and has not played yet. He has travelled with the squad, but CSK have held him back until he is fully fit. Head coach Stephen Fleming admitted after the RCB loss that Brevis is close. 

“We hope he is going to be right for the next game. We have five days between the next game. We have been conservative and hopefully, these next five days go as well as we have planned, and he is ready to go. It’s a big loss but we are looking forward to getting him back,” he said.
