Salman Ali Agha Set to Become Pakistan’s All-Format Captain, Replacing Rizwan and Masood
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is getting ready to name Salman Ali Agha as the new captain across all formats. He was already appointed as the full-time T20I captain back in March. Since then, the team has shown a fresh approach, especially in their batting, playing with more intent and confidence than before.
Salman Likely to Become Pakistan’s All-Format Captain
Salman has been performing well in both ODIs and Test matches. He’s become a key player in all formats, and because of that, the PCB is now thinking about replacing Mohammad Rizwan and Shan Masood as the captains in 50-over and Test cricket. The new head coach, Mike Hesson, along with the selection committee and PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi, are all in agreement on this decision.
“Salman has been impressive in the opinions of the selection committee, new head coach Hesson and, above all, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, Mohsin Naqvi. All are on the same page that he should be the all-format captain,” sources told GeoSuper.
Captaincy Changes Loom for Pakistan as Rizwan and Masood Face Uncertainty
Pakistan’s ODI captain Mohammad Rizwan hasn’t been happy with how little say he has had in picking the team. Under the previous head coach and now High Performance Director, Aaqib Javed, most of the decisions have been out of Rizwan’s hands. He had even considered stepping down as captain if he wasn’t given more control. Now, there are talks that he might be removed from the role altogether.
Shan Masood’s time as Pakistan’s Test captain hasn’t gone well so far. The team has only won 3 out of 12 matches under his leadership. They even lost a Test series to Bangladesh for the first time and couldn’t manage a win against the West Indies at home. On top of that, Shan himself hasn’t been in great form, averaging just 34.04 with the bat. Right now, he’s struggling to prove he deserves a spot in the Test side.
“Masood’s captaincy was unimpressive and timid, so he was destined to lose the captaincy. Moreover, Masood’s own performance was poor so Salman will also take over from him,” sources added.
