Ryan Ten Doeschate Confirms India Likely to Stay Unchanged for Delhi Test, Nitish Reddy to Play Again
India are expected to keep the same team for the second Test against the West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Shubman Gill and his team will face the West Indies from October 10 to 14 in the final Test of the series, hoping to win again and take the series.
Before the second match, assistant coach Ryan Ten Doeschate said they will play with the same team again. He added that they want to develop Nitish Kumar Reddy as a seam-bowling all-rounder. He also mentioned that having a player like him is very useful for overseas tours, which is why the team is giving him another chance.
"I’d say we’re unlikely to change the combination. One of the objectives, one of the sort of medium-term objectives, is to develop a seam-bowling all-rounder for India. It’s very important when we go away on tours that we have that position covered. We didn’t get a very good look at Nitish last week. So, I think it’s actually a very good opportunity to give Nitish another go and not alter the balance of the team," said Ten Doeschate while speaking to the media before the match.
Ten Doeschate Emphasizes the Need for a Seam-Bowling All-Rounder
India have high hopes for Nitish Reddy. The young player from Andhra is a rare talent in Indian cricket a seam-bowling all-rounder. Though it’s still early in his career, Reddy has already impressed with a century at the MCG. However, injuries have often slowed down his progress.
"I think he's shown everyone in Australia just how good he is as a batter. The challenge for him is going to be to make sure that he gets game time in between the away series. Like I answered the first question, I think a series like this where you look at the combinations, it's more important to look ahead and see how he gets game time and a chance to develop his bowling,” Doeschate added.
Reddy didn’t get much chance to play in the first Test in Ahmedabad. He bowled four overs for 16 runs and didn’t get to bat. He did take a great diving catch to dismiss Tagenarine Chanderpaul. The team might give him a higher batting spot in the second Test to give him more time to play.
