Pat Cummins Withdraws from 2025 MLC Season to Manage Workload

Pat Cummins Withdraws from 2025 MLC Season to Manage Workload

Australian cricket captain Pat Cummins has decided to sit out the 2025 season of Major League Cricket (MLC) in the United States. This happened after pulling out of the 2025 Champions Trophy due to an ankle injury. Cummins’ focus is on his recovery and leading Australia in international fixtures.

The 31-year-old fast bowler signed a four-year contract with the San Francisco Unicorns in June 2023. He had a great performance in 2024 powering Unicorns to Top 2. He played six matches, delivering 138 balls and conceding 211 runs while picking up four wickets. His best bowling figures in the tournament were 2/35, with a bowling average of 52.75.

Australia has a busy schedule this year, with the World Test Championship final at Lord’s in June and a tour of the West Indies, there is simply no time for him to take part in the third edition of MLC.

In a statement, the San Francisco Unicorns confirmed Cummins’ unavailability for the upcoming season. “Pat Cummins is not there to re-sign for the Unicorns in 2025 due to international contracts and workload management,” the statement read. “The fast bowler has expressed his excitement to play in future Major League Cricket seasons, as his international schedule permits.”
