Mithali Raj and Amol Muzumdar Join ICC Women’s Cricket Committee After India’s Historic World Cup Win

Former India captain Mithali Raj and current women’s head coach Amol Muzumdar have joined the ICC Women’s Cricket Committee. This comes after the Indian women’s team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, won their first-ever ODI World Cup in 2025 by defeating South Africa in the final.

Hosts India defeated South Africa by 52 runs at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai to win their first-ever trophy in women’s cricket. Nearly 300,000 fans attended the tournament in stadiums, marking the highest crowd ever for a women’s cricket event.

“The ICC Board ratified the appointment of a number of members of the ICC Women’s Cricket Committee, namely Ashley De Silva, Mithali Raj, Amol Muzumdar, Ben Sawyer, Charlotte Edwards and Sala Stella Siale-Vaea,” ICC said in a offical statement.

ICC’s ‘Project USA’: Safeguarding Players Amid Suspension

The ICC Women’s Cricket Committee helps guide and improve women’s cricket worldwide. It reviews rules to keep the game fair, plans major tournaments like the Women’s World Cup, supports young talent and promotes equality in the sport. The committee also works to bring more attention, funding and media coverage to women’s cricket.

The cricket governing body also shared the first update on ‘Project USA’, started after the suspension of USA Cricket. The ICC made it clear that the goal is to ensure players in the US national teams are not affected by the board’s suspension for not following rules. The project mainly focuses on preparing a strong base for cricket’s inclusion in the LA 2028 Olympic Games.
