Jemimah Rodrigues Reveals Annabel Sutherland Congratulated Her Despite Being Opponents

Jemimah Rodrigues, the star player for India Women, shared a heartfelt message she received from Annabel Sutherland following India's semi-final triumph against Australia in the 2025 Women’s World Cup. Jemimah's exceptional performance of 127 not out off 134 balls played a pivotal role in India's chase of a record total, providing fans with possibly the best win in the history of a World Cup.

Jemimah revealed that Sutherland, her Delhi Capitals (DC) teammate, reached out to her after the match, congratulating her on the innings. She mentioned that she would always remember this moment and that she respected Sutherland for being kind and thoughtful.

“After the game, it was pretty hard to cope with losing a semi-final. I know how much it means to Bellsy and how much she enjoys her cricket, even if it’s not always evident. She messaged me saying, ‘The character you have shown throughout this tournament has been outstanding. You totally deserve to own that moment tonight,’” Jemimah told DC’s Instagram.

"I mean, what a person! They just experienced a really tough and heavy loss when she texted me to tell me to stay positive - something I truly admire about her. She will do amazing things for Australia and that's daunting for us but also for DC. I'm ecstatic to be in the same dressing room again," she remarked.

Jemimah and Sutherland, along with other players, were retained under a new draft system ahead of the WPL 2026 mega auction, where all other team players will be decided. The auction is set to take place on November 27 in New Delhi. Other players retained by DC are Shafali Verma (INR 2.2 crore), Marizanne Kapp (INR 2.2 crore) and Niki Prasad (INR 50 lakh). The player who has been released includes Meg Lanning, N Shree Charani, Radha Yadav, and Arundhati Reddy.
