India Women’s Support Staff to Receive ₹11 Lakh Each from Maharashtra Govt After World Cup Win
Rewards continue for the Indian women’s cricket team, one month after their historic World Cup win at the D.Y. Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. The Maharashtra government has announced Rs 11 lakh for each member of the support staff for their work behind the scenes.
Earlier, the government had given Rs 2.25 crore to players Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues and Radha Yadav for their performances. Coach Amol Muzumdar received Rs 22.5 lakh. After the win, the three players, the coach and the staff also met Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Ministers Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde.
Many star players from other states have also been promised cash rewards, jobs and even land by their state governments for creating history. The 2025 home World Cup final was India’s third time in a World Cup final, after losing in 2005 and again by a very close margin in 2017.
The packed stadiums and fans wearing Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur jerseys are seen as a major turning point for Indian sports, similar to the impact of the 1983 World Cup win. This victory is expected to inspire many more girls to take up sports seriously, with more support from families and the overall system.
In the final, Shafali Verma scored 87 runs and Deepti Sharma added 58, helping India set a target of 299. India then defended the score with confidence. Shafali took two key wickets, while Deepti claimed five wickets, as India won their first ICC Women’s title. After the win, the team and support staff were invited to the Prime Minister’s residence and then met the President, before returning home to grand celebrations.
