Litton Das Ruled Out of Afghanistan Series With Back Injury

Bangladesh have suffered a setback in their white-ball plans as wicketkeeper-batter Litton Kumar Das will miss the upcoming T20I and ODI series against Afghanistan because of a back injury. The in-form top-order batter needs at least three weeks of rest and recovery, which means he won’t be part of the team’s tour to the UAE.
Litton Das ruled out of Afghanistan series with back injury
Litton picked up the injury on September 22 during a practice session at the ICC Academy Ground in Dubai, just before Bangladesh’s Asia Cup Super Four match against India. While trying to play a square cut in the nets, the 29-year-old felt pain on the left side of his waist. The team physio, Bayzid ul Islam, checked him right away and decided to take him out of training. Later, doctors confirmed that he would miss the rest of the tournament.
"I think he will need at least three weeks to recover so chances are slim of seeing him (Litton) during the series against Afghanistan,” an official working closely with the national team confirmed to Cricbuzz.
Bangladesh to Adjust Plans After Litton’s Injury
Bangladesh missed him during the Asia Cup, where they were knocked out after losing to India and Pakistan in the Super Four stage. In those matches, Jaker Ali kept wickets and is likely to continue in that role unless the selectors decide to make a late change.
Litton’s injury has come at a bad time, as he has been batting with good consistency at the top order in all formats. He was expected to be an important player in the six-match series against Afghanistan, which is part of Bangladesh’s preparation for next year’s T20 World Cup in the subcontinent.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has not yet announced the final squad for the series. The team is set to resume training on September 29. The T20Is will take place in Sharjah from October 2 to 5, followed by the ODIs in Abu Dhabi on October 8, 11, and 14. The selectors now face the task of reshuffling the squad to find a suitable replacement ahead of the important bilateral assignment.
