Jemimah Rodrigues Stays With Smriti Mandhana After Wedding Postponement, Leaves Brisbane Heat

Jemimah Rodrigues has been released from the Brisbane Heat squad and will not play in the rest of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL 2025). The Indian batter, who played three matches this season, had flown back home last week to attend Smriti Mandhana’s pre-wedding events.
But with Smriti’s wedding with Palash Muchhal now postponed indefinitely, Jemimah has decided to stay in India and skip the remainder of the WBBL.
“Brisbane Heat have agreed to a request to release Jemimah Rodrigues from the remainder of the Weber Women’s Big Bash League. Rodrigues returned home to India after the Heat’s match against the Hobart Hurricanes 10 days ago as part of a pre-arranged commitment where she was to be involved in Indian teammate Smriti Mandhana’s wedding last weekend. However, the celebrations were subsequently postponed due to a health issue with Mandhana’s father. Rodrigues will stay in India to support her teammate, and the Heat has agreed to her not returning for the final four games of the WBBL season,” Brisbane Heat said in a statement.
Jemimah Rodrigues Leaves Brisbane Heat, Stays Home After Smriti Mandhana’s Wedding Is Postponed
India’s top run-scorer from the recent ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, Smriti Mandhana, was supposed to get married to her fiancé Palash Muchhal on November 23. But the wedding has now been put on hold after her father was taken to a hospital in Sangli on Sunday.
According to Smriti’s manager, she didn’t want to go ahead with the wedding during a family emergency. Her manager also said that her father is still under observation and the doctors are running several tests.
“Mandhana was very clear that in these circumstances she did not want to get married, which is why the decision has been taken to postpone the wedding indefinitely,” Smriti’s manager Tuhin Mishra told the publication.
