For IPL 2025, Delhi Capitals has built a strong squad for the season; after the departure of last year's captain, Rishabh Pant, the team has brought in some big names and experienced players to the squad for this two and a half month long tournament.
Retention
The team faced a significant setback before the auction when they learned that last year's captain, Rishabh Pant, wanted to test himself in the auction to find a more handsome price. This news gave a massive blow to the team's auction-planning.
Since Rishabh Pant wasn't available for the retention, the team retained all-rounder Aksar Patel, leg spinner Kuldeep Yadav, batter Tristan Stubbs and unsalted Abhishek Porel.

Delhi’s Batting Capabilities
Delhi has built a solid top order with the addition of KL Rahul, Jake Fraser McGurk, FaF Du Plessis and Abhishek Porel. Meanwhile, the middle-order team has Tristan Stubbs, Harry Brooks, and Karun Nayar.
But only three of DuPlessis, McGurk, Brooks or Stubbs could be in the team at a time, as Starc will play all the matches.
While three of the top five players will be overseas, this is also a concern as it takes away the opportunity to play with two foreign seamers in the match.
All-rounders
The team has only one premier all-rounder this season, Axar Patel, while the team has many uncapped All-rounders in the squad, but it will be risky for the team to go with just one proven all-rounder in the playing XI.
Bowling Department
Regarding the pace department, the team added Mitchell Starc, an experienced Australian bowler known for his lethal bowling, alongside him Dushmanta Chameera from Sri Lanka. The team has also added Indian pacers, such as T Natrajan, Mohit Sharma, and death-over specialist Mukesh Kumar.
In the spin department, the team relies on Kuldeep Yadav as their key spinner, who will be in the playing XI alongside Axar Patel.
Delhi Capitals has big names both in the batting and the bowling, but the team don't look very balanced and lacks all-rounders and overseas balance. The team's focus on overseas batters might affect the balance of playing XI during the season.
