BCCI Set to Announce New Secretary and Treasurer by Mid-January

The BCCI is going to have a Special General Meeting (SGM) because Jay Shah and Ashish Shelar quit their jobs as Secretary and Treasurer; they're planning to pick new people for these spots; the meeting is supposed to take place in Mumbai around the second week of January, and they're aiming for January 12.

The decision to organize the SGM was made during an emergency meeting of the BCCI Apex Council, held online on Thursday evening. The notices for the meeting were sent out just a day earlier, on Wednesday. The Apex Council has approved the SGM, leaving it to the office-bearers to decide the final date and venue. These details are expected to be confirmed by Friday, December 20. As per BCCI rules, a 21-day notice is mandatory, making January 11 or 12 the probable dates for the meeting.

Jay Shah Joins ICC, Ashish Shelar Steps into Maharashtra Government

Jay Shah resigned as BCCI secretary on November 30 to become the Independent Chair of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Treasurer Ashish Shelar stepped down on December 15 after joining the Maharashtra government under Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. According to BCCI rules, a minister cannot hold an office-bearer position on the board.

Roger Binny, who is the President of the BCCI, decided to make a move. Binny gave all the secretary tasks to this other person, Devjit Saikia since he was allowed to. It was official since he knew all the rules but when Thursday, December 19, rolled around, nothing was done regarding the treasurer's job. Still no word on who's handling that.

SGM Scheduled Just in Time to Pick New Leaders

The rules of the BCCI say they must pick new leaders within 45 days if there's an empty spot; this means they need someone for the role of secretary by January 15, and they've planned the SGM perfectly to make sure this happens.
