IPL 2025: CSK Name Ayush Mhatre as Injury Replacement for Ruturaj Gaikwad; SRH Replace Injured Zampa with Smaran Ravichandran
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have named Ayush Mhatre as an injury replacement for skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, who is sidelined from the 2025 IPL due to an elbow fracture. Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have brought in Smaran Ravichandran to fill in for injured Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa. Mhatre plays for Mumbai in domestic cricket, has scored 962 runs across nine first-class and seven List A matches.
CSK have signed 17-year-old right-handed batter Ayush Mhatre for INR 30 lakh. Hailing from Virar a suburb near Mumbai, Mhatre made headlines last year by breaking Yashasvi Jaiswal's record as the youngest player to score 150+ in a List A match. While he is yet to play competitive T20 cricket, he impressed with 176 runs in three matches during the 2024-25 Men's U19 Asia Cup in the UAE and recently participated in CSK's mid-season trials.
Chennai Super Kings snapped their five-match losing streak with a hard-fought win over Lucknow Super Giants but remain at the bottom of the table due to a lower net run rate. Now led by MS Dhoni, CSK will face Mumbai Indians captained by Hardik Pandya, on April 20 at the Wankhede Stadium.
Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad have signed 21-year-old left-handed batter Smaran Ravichandran from Bengaluru for INR 30 lakh as a replacement for Adam Zampa. Representing Karnataka in domestic cricket, Ravichandran has played seven first-class, ten List A and six T20 matches amassing over 1100 runs. He was a key performer in Karnataka's victorious Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign scoring 516 runs. SRH, currently ninth on the table will take on seventh-placed Mumbai Indians this Thursday at Wankhede.
